October Delayed Harvest

Had a good start to the Delayed Harvest trout waters opening in October. Took two of my favorite clients out for the day floating the DH section of the Tuckasegee River. We started with Anna setting the hook into a nice rainbow trout that measured over 15inches!! The trout fishing slacked off some during the mid- day, but we were still putting rock bass and smalies in the boat left and right. Later in the afternoon we found a nice pod of trout feeding in a remote pool and caught 6 nice fish in a row and a few bass too. Overall, we had a great fall day on the water even though we didn’t manage huge numbers of trout. Duke Energy released the west fork the night before, so for most of the float we had good water levels. Not bad for fishing in the remnants of a hurricane (20mph wind gusts throughout the float doesn’t make fly-fishing easy.)
