I was on the river twice this week targeting smallmouth. Monday I took a client out on the French Broad River north of Asheville. The bite turned on like a light switch around 10:30am and was really hot for a couple hours. During that time we boated about 20+ fish in the 10-15in. range. Then around 2ish in the afternoon the bite turned off completely. Right before we took out, the fish seemed to start biting again. The bass were interested in white swimbaits and Rapala shadow rap shads. Fished a different flow yesterday with a good friend. We caught largemouth and smallies consistently all day on a variety of lures. I put two 17in. smallies in the boat with 412bait’s freeworm in dreamsicle color. A dropshot rigged with a white Berkley minnow caught a few fish too. I missed the biggest of the day on the dropshot, easily being the biggest i’ve hooked all year. Mountain bass fishing is on fire, get out and get hooked up!
